"We don't want to be attended by blacks"

26/04/2010 11:12:28

A British family has been hauled into court in the U.S. because, they allegedly, asked in a luxury hotel that they did not want to be attended by any black person during their stay. According to The Telegraph, the family stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Naples, Florida, and specified that they did not want to deal with any "person of color" or with "foreign accent."

This particular case is now being judged in the courts of Florida. The family filed the request when they registered with the luxury hotel and was recorded on the computer. As reported by the Daily Mail, a black waiter was arrested after serving them.

The waiter's lawyer, Michael McDonnell, said, "my client was prevented from attending this couple because he was black," says the British newspaper. According to documents filed against the hotel managers, have violated the Civil Rights Act by preventing Tranchant from attending the couple.

His lawyers say that on February 28, the Morgan family as guests arrived and specified their preference not to be served by "coloured people" or "with foreign accent. In addition, the note which was reflected in the computer system warned that the family had "a lot of prejudice."

The lawyer says that at the hotel nine members have acknowledged that they were warned that the British family did not want to be attended by anyone black or with a foreign accent.

"Humiliated and ashamed"

During one of the night s that the British family was in the hotel, Tranchant Wadner prepared to meet the couple at the restaurant of the complex but was transferred to other tasks.

The waiter, who has worked at the hotel for 15 years, says he was "humiliated and embarrassed." In the lawsuit his lawyer says that the waiter was so offended he had to seek medical help and counseling.
